Quartz

Quartz is a mineral consisting mostly of silica SiO. Quartz is normally transparent, but small quantities of other atoms added to the silica can color it violet (amethyst), yellow (citrine), black (morion) or other colors.

Quartz is the main constituent of light colored sand.
