Elliptical Galaxies

Elliptical galaxies have very little internal structure, appearing as an amorphous cloud of stars. They vary in shape from spherical through oval to flattened discs.

They contain very little gas and new stars rarely from inside them. Most of their stars are old. Because of this lack of star-formation, ellipticals are not rich in the dust which is necessary for create planets. So to find a place suitable for life to form we need to look elsewhere.
